**Mildly Spoilerish**
I read Shiver last year, shortly after it came out. I did really enjoy the book and even voted to be sure it would appear on the list for the committee I'm on. However, I always had one problem with the book -the "cure". No one else seemed as bothered by this as me, but I just can't get past that. I did like that there was some science involved with why they turned into the wolves when it was cold. Despite the so-called cure, the book was good, so of course I wanted to read the second book, Linger.
Only ten chapters in, I was highly annoyed by the book already. The moment that Grace said that Isabel was cold and Isabel said it was Grace that was hot, I just knew that she was going to be sick and how she would be "cured". At first I thought that Sam had gotten her sick somehow, but at least that wasn't the case. At least what Cole deciphered made a teensy bit more sense. I just can't decide if I like Grace, and I'm definitely not fond of the parents, but the parents are often played off as the bad guy in YA books.
I like Sam more than I do Grace, and even Isabel is more interesting, but also a little annoying. I think that Cole was one of the best things about the second book. His story was intriguing but I was left wanting a little more, hoping for a little more resolution to his character. But again, assuming that there is a third book, there is still time for more of his story.
I'm guessing that the next book will take place in the summer, so that all of the new wolves are in human form, including Grace, and the group will be searching for a real cure. Also just want to add that I love the covers of these books and that the ink in the book is the same color as what is used on the cover.

ReplyDeleteHey Kimbley, I had originally had much more detail in the post with bold SPOILER ALERTs everywhere, but then I decided to cut all the really spoilery stuff. I guess mentioning the cure and her being sick in the second one is still spoilerish. I'll add a much more muted spoiler alert!
ReplyDeleteHahaha...it's okay. I mean, the book is about two teenagers in love, so obviously they are going to figure out some way to stay together! (Especially since there is a sequel!!)
