Well, the main reason it took me forever to create the blog is that I couldn't come up with the perfect name. Everything I wanted was taken, so I kept stalling, hoping the perfect name would come to me. I liked a lot of suggestions, but nothing ever really clicked. Then a friend of mine suggested I use a title of a song or the name of an episode of one of my favorite tv shows. So today I started browsing episode titles, and finally something inspired me to try "Across the Library". Something about it really connects with me, and so, here we are.
So what will I be posting here?
Read the sidebar! Book reviews. New books. Books I'm crazy about. Library craziness. Teen services at the library. Program ideas. Workshops I've been to. My favorite book of the moment. Fiction. Non-fiction. Historical Fiction. Mysteries. Science Fiction. Fantasy. Romance. Graphic novels. Anything and everything else related to books or the library.
For a while now, I've been thinking of reviews for books I've recently read, so I did finally write a couple of reviews and email them to myself. I'm going to post those first, with the date the review was written.
Also, I suppose I should mention a little bit about me. Name's Tonya. Oh, and the reason it was so important that I connect with the blog name is because I've never connected with my own real name. Anyway, I'm currently 30 years old, living in Northwest Louisiana with my husband of 10 years and our 4 dogs (Sassy, Sasha, Ben, and Boots). I love to read and write when I have the time. I work at a public library in circulation, reference, and teen services. As the sole person in teen services for my library system, I'm constantly trying to come up with ideas and find the time to implement them.
I'm also on the committee for the Louisiana Teen Reader's Choice award, so most of the books I'm reading are young adult books that were published in the current year. Of course, right now I'm trying to read 2010 books, catch up on 2009 books that I didn't get to, and throw in a few regular adult fiction books that I'm interested in.
Oh, I'm also in school, a senior at Ashford University. Getting my degree online in organizational management. Right after I graduate on August 1, 2011, I plan to go straight into a masters program for library and information science, concentrating on young adult services. That's right, for those of you who don't know, to be a librarian, you have to have a masters degree. Not sure on what school I'll be going to for that yet. Hope to decide and apply by/in the spring.
And with all that said, let's get to the reviews!
