Reintroduction

Well, you've probably noticed that there was a big gap in the time frame that I posted reviews.    When I first started the blog, I posted an introduction, as such:

Also, I suppose I should mention a little bit about me.  Name's Tonya.  Oh, and the reason it was so important that I connect with the blog name is because I've never connected with my own real name.  Anyway, I'm currently 30 years old, living in Northwest Louisiana with my husband of 10 years and our 4 dogs (Sassy, Sasha, Ben, and Boots).  I love to read and write when I have the time.  I work at a public library in circulation, reference, and teen services.  As the sole person in teen services for my library system, I'm constantly trying to come up with ideas and find the time to implement them.
I'm also on the committee for the Louisiana Teen Reader's Choice award, so most of the books I'm reading are young adult books that were published in the current year.   Of course, right now I'm trying to read 2010 books, catch up on 2009 books that I didn't get to, and throw in a few regular adult fiction books that I'm interested in.

Oh, I'm also in school, a senior at Ashford University.  Getting my degree online in organizational management.  Right after I graduate on August 1, 2011, I plan to go straight into a masters program for library and information science, concentrating on young adult services.  That's right, for those of you who don't know, to be a librarian, you have to have a masters degree.  Not sure on what school I'll be going to for that yet.  Hope to decide and apply by/in the spring.

Since it's now been years, and a lot has changed, I thought maybe I should post a re-introduction!  Here goes:  Name's still Tonya ;)  I'm now 37, still living in Northwest Louisiana.  My husband and I just celebrated our 18th anniversary.  Sadly those 4 dogs mentioned above have all passed away, but we now have 4 cats, soon to be 5.  I still work at the same public library, however, I am not in the same department -- I went on to get my masters degree in library and information sciences, and while working on that, I started getting interested in cataloging.  After getting my degree, I became an Acquisitions and Cataloging Librarian in Technical Services.  I love my job!  I get to select and order new books, audiobooks, and dvds for children, young adults, and adults.  I also enjoy cataloging the materials, entering all of the information into the MARC records.  I order fiction and nonfiction books, but primarily catalog nonfiction.

Even though I'm no longer in Teen Services, I still enjoy young adults books, and I'll still be reviewing young adult books here, as well adult books and the occasional children's book.

I'm a little rusty, so I hope you'll stick with me as I brush off the dust and get my writing shoes back on.

Shiver and Linger by Maggie Stiefvater - Slight Spoiler Alert

Review written on August 7, 2010 ** Mildly Spoilerish** Books 1 and 2 in the Mercy Falls series I read Shiver last year, shortly after it came out.  I did really enjoy the book and even voted to be sure it would appear on the list for the committee I'm on.  However, I always had one problem with the book -the "cure".  No one else seemed as bothered by this as me, but I just can't get past that.  I did like that there was some science involved with why they turned into the wolves when it was cold.  Despite the so-called cure, the book was good, so of course I wanted to read the second book, Linger . Only ten chapters in, I was highly annoyed by the book already.  The moment that Grace said that Isabel was cold and Isabel said it was Grace that was hot, I just knew that she was going to be sick and how she would be "cured".  At first I thought that Sam had gotten her sick somehow, but at least that wasn't the case.  At least what Cole d...

Initial thoughts on Mockingjay

Don't worry, I'm going to try and stay away from spoilers, at least for now!  In my opinion, the hardest part of writing any book or story is writing the ending.  I imagine that it's probably incredibly more difficult when you are writing the ending of a book that has been a popular series.  The author always knows that some fans will love it and some fans will hate it.  Of course you can't please everyone. That said, how do I feel about Mockingjay?  As I book, I loved it, and I wasn't disappointed at all.  The action was just as fast-paced and captivating as the two previous books of the series.  Suzanne Collins has mastered the art of keeping the reader from getting bored.  Around half way through the book, I got a little teary, but I won't say why just yet.  Nor will I reveal what part of the ending of the series made me cry.  Maybe later I'll come back, when more people have finished the book, or when I figure out if there's a wa...

Year One by Nora Roberts

Title: Year One Author: Nora Roberts Cover: A decent cover that represents the start of the plague and the crows that come with the darkness. *Mild Spoilers Ahead* Review: I will say first that I am not a typical Nora Roberts fan. In fact, I've only read three other books by her, that being the Seven Signs Trilogy that starts with Blood Brothers. If I remember correctly, those also had a fantasy/paranormal feel to them, while her typical books do not. It was the fantasy elements of this book that appealed to me. A plague strikes, first taking a family, but since it is highly contagious and they are traveling after the holidays, it quickly spreads, wiping out large numbers of the population. There are already some people with gifts before the plague hits, but after, these gifts grow stronger, and others gain powers as well. These people, from witches, elves, fairies, and more, are called the Uncanny, and some people blame them for the plague, or are just generally hateful...
